Hi, We’re Matt and Val. I am a Virginia Licensed REALTOR, and together we also founded Academy Home Buyers. After retiring from the Police Department, I knew I wanted to continue serving people in meaningful ways. Real estate gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that. Now, nearly a decade later, I’ve helped many homeowners move on from difficult properties with ease and confidence.

I spent years protecting and serving the community. But when I transitioned out of law enforcement, I looked for a career where I could still help people — especially those feeling stuck or overwhelmed by their property situation.

Before real estate, and before the police department, I was a Keeper at the Bronx Zoo — yep, with lions, tigers, and bears. Now, I’m a proud dad of two (one’s in college!), husband, and cat dad to two crazy felines. We love exploring parks, especially during cherry blossom season at Red Wing Park.
